Berkeley Allocates A Top Administrator For Green Campus Effort

UC Berkeley's four residence hall cafeterias have certified organic salad bars, use biomass packaging, buy nearly half of their produce locally and make students compost their leftovers. The campus student union building gets some of its power from solar panels on the roof, and the chancellor has pledged to reduce campus greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2014. But Cal's efforts to scale down its environmental footprint have been scattered and lack central leadership. So this week, the campus filled a top management position to head its new Office of Sustainability, which will help coordinate the greening of the campus. It's an example of the green ethos blossoming on campuses across the land. Read more at:
