California Community Colleges Get Serious About Fundraising

California's 109 community colleges are joining the search for large donations from businesses, foundations and alumni - green pastures that used to be grazed almost exclusively by the state's public and private universities. Up and down the state, community colleges say they must launch more aggressive fundraising drives as their enrollments expand faster than their funding from Sacramento. The effort involves hiring professional fundraisers, courting alumni, and enticing gifts from wealthy donors, businesses and foundations.
