But IHEs Are Trying To Contain Costs

The steady stream of tuition increases raises the question: Can't colleges rein in their spending? Rising prices have propelled a myth that public colleges and universities are not demonstrating sufficient fiscal stewardship of student tuition and public tax dollars. In reality, overall institutional spending has increased, but when factoring in enrollment growth, the per-student increase has been negligible. A report just released by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and SunGard Higher Education affirms that colleges are capitalizing on cost-saving opportunities campuswide in an effort to contain costs.
