Expecting A Slow Week

As higher education takes a break next week it's likely things will be on the slow side here at KUAL. Maybe a few posts here and there. So perhaps this is a good time for me to says thanks to all of you for your continued readership - and to new folks who are just discovering KUAL as a source of information about higher education. The number of visits and posts read continues to grow, and I appreciate that. So have a good holiday and a great new year. Here's looking to more news and information about higher education in 2008.

KUAL Will Have A Guest Blogger The Next Two Weeks

Even The Kept-Up Academic Librarian gets to take a vacation once a year. This time it's a long one - two weeks. While the KUAL is galivanting about he has arranged for a guest blogger to continue the good work of keeping you, the reader, up-to-date with news and events from the world of higher education. Thanks to everyone who stopped to say hello to me at ALA in DC. It was great to hear from so many people who read KUAL - and I really appreciate those who told me how much you enjoy the blog and look forward to the posts. It is great to know that KUAL is helping others to stay kept up with higher education news and developments. Now - to get back to your regularly scheduled program...

Limited Posts The Next Two Days

I'll be attending the ACRL conference in Baltimore over the next few days so posts will be limited, if there are posts at all. I will be attempting to do more conference blogging for ACRLog. If you are going to be at the ACRL conference, please say hello if you spot me.

Limited Posts Until The New Year

It's unlikely a whole lot will be happening in the higher education industry next week. Therefore posts to KUAL will be limited until January 2, 2007. I hope all KUAL readers have a good holiday break, and that your institution is one of those that closes for the days between Christmas and New Year's Day. Best wishes for a great 2007. It's sure to be an interesting year for higher education and academic libraries. And, as always, thanks for reading KUAL.

Kept-Up Goes On Vacation Next Week

It's vacation time. I am taking a week off from posting here. Hopefully it will be a relatively quiet week in the world of higher education, but somehow I doubt it. I will look forward to sharing news from higher education starting again on Monday, July 31.

If you want to use the time you would ordinarily spend reading KUAL posts on trying something new, you may want to give my higher education reading list a try. You can use it to quickly add higher education news feeds to your news aggregator (if you aren't using one, such as bloglines, now is a good time to start). I have instructions on the page on how to get the reading list file, and how to import it into your aggregator.

If you have any suggestions for feeds to add to the list, please submit them as a comment to this post - or just let me know if the reading list worked for you.

I will be attending the American Library Association conference in New Orleans starting tomorrow. During this time posts to Kept-Up will be limited. No Kept-Up Friday And Monday

I'll be off in the deep words of north central Pennsylvania for a camping trip tomorrow through Monday. Not only is there no Internet where I'm headed, but there's no place to plug in a laptop. I will look forward to posting again next Tuesday. The forecast is for rain most of the time, which is about normal for my camping trips, but it will be good to get away for a bit. If this is your first visit to Kept-Up Academic Librarian - welcome - and thanks for stopping by. You may have decided to take a look after seeing Blake Carver's LISNews post about blogs worth taking a look at. It was a pleasure to be mentioned in Blake's list, but it is just one person's opinion. I hope you'll like what you see here and make it one of your regular reads. If you are new to KUAL you'll find it has a simple mission - just help keep academic librarians (and others with an interest in the field of higher ed) up-to-date and alert with the latest news and developments in the world of IHEs (institutions of higher education). There's rarely any commentary here. Just the news - but KUAL seeks to be consistent. You'll get 2-5 stories each day, M-F. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. I also assume you will read the Chronicle of Higher Ed, so I don't bother linking to their stories (most of which you need a subscription for in any case). If your idea of a blog is commentary, thought provoking posts, ideas that challenge you, etc. you won't find it here. However, if that is what you like I've got just the thing you need - ACRLog - it's a blog by and for academic librarians - so you'll get plenty of what you like there. Just the same, I hope you'll become a KUAL regular. Thanks for stopping by.
