These days, dorm is a four-letter word. It "makes folks cringe," said Jennifer Richardson, the director of resident life at The College of Saint Rose. Dormitories -- the traditional communal setting with two or three students to a room and bathrooms shared by 20 or more -- still exist and still serve a purpose in developing social skills for freshmen. Now single rooms in groups of four come with a central kitchen and living area. WiFi and air conditioning are the rule. Students get a community with privacy and proximity to campus that rental apartments in town and other housing can't offer. Read more at:
